Concrete Slab & Foundation Work

Solid foundations for every structure. Built right from the ground up to support what matters most.

The Foundation of Every Project

Every structure starts with its foundation, and getting it right is not optional. A poorly built slab leads to cracking walls, sticking doors, uneven floors, and expensive repairs. A properly engineered concrete foundation supports your structure for its entire lifespan without shifting, settling, or failing.

In Sun Lakes, the desert soil presents unique challenges. Expansive clay soils swell when wet and shrink when dry, creating movement that can crack and damage foundations that are not properly designed. We understand these local conditions and build every slab to handle the soil dynamics of the Maricopa County area.

At Sun Lakes Concrete Expert, we pour slabs and foundations for home additions, garages, sheds, workshops, Arizona rooms, RV pads, and commercial buildings. No matter the size or purpose, we build it to code and built to last.

Types of Slabs and Foundations We Build

Monolithic Slab Foundations

A monolithic slab is poured as a single unit with thickened edges that serve as the footing. This is the most common foundation type for residential construction in Arizona. The entire slab and footings are poured at the same time, which saves time and reduces labor costs. It works well for garages, home additions, and smaller structures.

Stem Wall Foundations

Stem wall foundations use a separate footing and short wall to raise the structure above grade. The slab is then poured inside the walls. This design provides better protection against moisture and allows for more precise leveling on sloped sites. It is common for larger buildings and areas with drainage concerns.

Post-Tension Slab Foundations

Post-tension slabs use high-strength steel cables embedded in the concrete. After the concrete cures, these cables are tensioned to compress the slab and improve its resistance to cracking. This method is especially effective in areas with expansive soils like Sun Lakes, where ground movement puts stress on traditional foundations.

Equipment Pads and Utility Slabs

Smaller slabs for HVAC units, generators, pool equipment, and other mechanical systems. These pads need to be level, properly sized, and thick enough to support the equipment. We pour them with the same attention to base preparation and finishing as larger projects.

Common Slab and Foundation Projects:

  • Home additions and room extensions
  • Detached garages and carports
  • Workshops, sheds, and storage buildings
  • RV pads and parking areas
  • Arizona rooms and covered outdoor structures
  • Commercial building foundations

Our Foundation Process

Foundation work has no room for shortcuts. Here is how we approach every project to ensure long-term performance.

Step 1: Engineering and Permits

Most foundation work requires building permits and may need engineered drawings. We work with local building departments and engineers to ensure your project meets all code requirements. We handle the paperwork and scheduling so you do not have to.

Step 2: Excavation and Base Preparation

We excavate to the required depth, remove unsuitable soil, and bring in compactable fill material as needed. The base is graded for proper drainage and compacted in lifts to meet engineering specifications. We verify compaction with testing equipment to make sure the base will support the structure without settling.

Step 3: Reinforcement, Pouring, and Curing

Rebar, wire mesh, or post-tension cables are installed per the engineering plan. We pour the concrete to the specified thickness and finish the surface to the required grade and texture. Curing compounds are applied immediately to ensure proper hydration and strength development. We schedule inspections as required by the building department.

Code compliance matters: Foundation work is inspected by the building department at multiple stages. We build to meet or exceed code requirements because a failed inspection costs everyone time and money. Our track record of passing inspections means your project stays on schedule.
